After working in IT for over 20 years I was made aware of of the ACT course which was being run at Cardiff University and decided to look into it. After some research it looked very promising.
I was looking for something that I could use for self-help to develop resilience and reduce stress in my daily life but also to gain more of an insight into what makes us, as human beings, tick.
Well from the first lesson of the first course I knew that I had made the right choice. ACT spoke to me in way that nothing else did and I was hooked. Since then I have been on all of Ingrid’s courses at Cardiff University, gained my ACT/ProSocial Matrix qualification after studying with Dr Kevin Polk, developed my own ACT model and built this website with Ingrid.
ACT has helped enormously in my life to gain better perspective on who and what is important, develop self-awareness and not to get hung up on that voice in my head feeding me negative stories.
In future we hope to offer courses in ACT and the ACT/ProSocial Matrix for mental health professionals as well as in the corporate world. This will be for staff training in the use of ACT techniques and HR professionals to use and train their own staff.
In many ways I have been very fortunate in my life but I have struggled with some significant challenges which ACT has taught me to change my relationship with, and see from a different perspective.
