In 2010 my family and I came from (sometimes too) sunny Australia to Cardiff.

Everybody thinks I am joking, when I say that we decided on living in Wales because of the rain. However, that is absolutely true! Born and raised in Germany, I missed the green and the cold and the seasons. Wales was and is my Goldilocks spot!

When you go somewhere new, it is customary to bring a gift: So, I decided to offer my skills as a teacher, trainer and ACT therapist to the Cardiff community.

Although I had trained and worked for many years in my first career as a teacher, my interests had led to a major career change in Australia. In 2001 I graduated from Canberra University with a Postgraduate Diploma and a Masters in Counselling, Community Education and Psychotherapy.

Having trained in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), I then found ‘my best fit’ therapy in 2007: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

My initial training in ACT was with Russ Harris, author of the Happiness Trap, and one of the ACT ‘Greats’. I have been working as an ACT therapist and trainer ever since.

In 2011, I commenced teaching ACT courses for professionals and members of the general public at the Centre for Continuing and Professional Education of Cardiff University.

If you think, this is grand, well… I have been rather lucky in many things in my live. Many (often hard and unwanted) changes opened up other possibilities. I have found that being human is not easy. It is sometimes hard and sometimes beautiful. Everybody experiences life’s struggles.

As humans we all have weaknesses. To not accept this means additional suffering and stress. ACT is here to help!
